Sharpening stones

Sharpening stones for knives are one of the original methods of sharpening knives. Historically, blades have always been sharpened using sharpening stones. Even medieval blacksmiths and master swordsmiths always sharpened swords with their help. For sharpening with a sharpening stone you need at least basic knowledge of the sharpening process. However, nowadays you can pick this up very quickly on YouTube.

Scissors, knives, I sharpen

A knife sharpener has always been valued like gold in our country. It was a popular and prestigious profession. Not everyone had enough tools at home and especially the know-how of how to sharpen a knife correctly. Today we are used to sharpening knives at home. But what do we do with other tools? On a sharpening stone you can easily sharpen an axe or a spade. It will not, however, cope with a sickle.

Sharpening angle

For proper knife sharpening you should maintain the correct edge angle. You change it simply by tilting the knife towards the stone. If you sharpen at the wrong angle, your knife may not be as perfectly sharp as the manufacturer intended.

Abrasive material

Also pay attention to the abrasive material and its grit. Diamond sharpening stones are particularly popular, as they boast a long service life. The grit of a sharpening stone is a very important parameter. Thanks to it, you can sharpen a knife correctly. You always start sharpening with stones with lower values. Afterwards, you can move on to stones with higher grit. The higher their grit, the more perfect the resulting edge can be. However, the sharpening technique is also important.
