The HK 416 A5 model is powered by two 12g CO2 cartridges inserted into the magazine. However, the shots are not located there. The BB chamber is placed in the handguard and holds 36 steel BBs in caliber 4.5mm.
Above the chamber there is a reservoir that can hold up to 600 BBs, which move into the lower chamber when you operate the cleverly concealed charging handle on the left side and tilt the gun. Loading 36 shots into the chamber thus takes you only a few seconds.
The air rifle can fire BBs from its steel barrel with a muzzle energy of 3J, so it is mainly suitable for plinking and recreational shooting. A perfect shooting experience is also supported by the 6‑shot burst fire mode, which uses the Blowback system for cycling.
For mounting accessories there are in total four 22mm Weaver / Picatinny rails , and flip‑up sights are mounted by default on the top rail. The safety, which also serves as the fire mode selector, is ambidextrous, the grip is textured on the sides for a more secure hold, and of course there is also an adjustable stock.
The internal construction of the gun is made from a zinc-aluminium alloy and then complemented with a durable polymer body reducing the overall weight to 1800g.
