With its impressive appearance and the striking sound when charging, it clearly shows that it is meant very seriously. Users will especially appreciate the intuitive handling. The construction consists of an alloy frame covered with durable polymer. The robust all‑metal cartridge chamber and massive muzzle brake bring the weight of the Home Defense Extreme shotgun to more than 3 kg. Nevertheless, the gun is perfectly balanced and has excellent ergonomics.
Thanks to the quick‑piercing system, the gun can be kept in standby mode for months. A light strike on the rear of the stock is enough to pierce the two 12g CO₂ cartridges. The indicator will show you that you are ready to fire. Thanks to this system you can keep the cartridges inserted in the gun for a long time without damaging the seals or the valve. Umarex has thus brilliantly solved the rapid deployment of the shotgun for self‑defence and eliminated possible fatal failure of the weapon in a crisis situation.
The HDX 68 shotgun uses cal .68 (17.3 mm) ammunition. The muzzle energy of the projectile is right on the limit of 16 J, which is a really solid punch. Thanks to the 366 mm long barrel it achieves surprising accuracy. Although it is not primarily intended for target shooting, it performs excellently in dynamic shooting at cans and similar targets. The internal tubular magazine holds 16 rounds, which is a really decent ammunition reserve. With two cartridges you can effectively fire approximately 20 shots.
The trigger mechanism operates in Single Action mode. The trigger is excellent. The manual safety is located on the frame and is easy to operate.
The open sights consist of a fixed fiber‑optic front sight and a height and windage adjustable rear sight. Thanks to the long 22 mm Weaver rail, it is no problem to mount, for example, a red dot sight on the shotgun. Another rail is located on the fore‑end and is suitable, for example, for mounting a laser or a flashlight.
Umarex T4E (Training for Engagement) guns are an effective means of self‑defence. This is evidenced by the fact that they are used by many armed forces and professionals for training. You do not have to be a professional and you will enjoy plenty of fun with them when shooting at targets or cans.
