It uses .50 caliber (12.7mm diameter) rubber, pepper, or marking balls as ammunition. Due to the design of the 6-round magazine located under the barrel, it is not compatible with non-spherical projectiles. The individual rounds are fed into the slot at the bottom after compressing the spring on the right side. The DAO (Double Action Only) trigger with an integrated safety makes the pistol operate in Semi-Auto mode.
The pistol is powered by a single 12g CO2 cartridge, which is inserted into the grip with the valve facing outwards. To activate it, the pistol features a quick-piercing system, which means that you just need to bump the valve with your palm. That way, you can keep the gun ready at all times without the risk of the sealing rings degrading due to exposure to freezing carbon dioxide.
After activating, an indicator at the rear of the slide pops out, meaning that the gun is under pressure and ready to fire. If you haven't emptied the entire cartridge and you know you won't be shooting for some time, we recommend releasing the pressure by slowly pushing the indicator in.
There is a short 22mm Weaver/Picatinny rail under the barrel for installing a laser or tactical flashlight, and the top of the slide features fixed non-adjustable sights. The internal mechanism of the pistol is of course made of metal, the outer frame is polymer.
Our opinion: the Borner PDW50 pistol can best be compared to the popular T4E HDP50 / TP50 model from the German company Umarex. It features the same quick activation system, same magazine design, same trigger safety, and so on. It only differs in the overall appearance and doesn't feature light guiding fibre sights, however, it boasts a higher muzzle energy. And that's the most important aspect of a self-defense weapon.
