Evanix Hunting Master 2 is an unconventional PCP air rifle with a revolver-style action and an eight-shot magazine. The second generation builds on the original AR22 model, offering a higher magazine capacity, a redesigned wooden stock and additional barrel support.
Revolver-style action
A distinctive feature of the Hunting Master 2 is its revolver-style action with an 8-pellet rotary magazine. The air rifle offers two firing modes:
-
Single Action (SA) – the hammer is manually cocked before each shot. This firing mode offers a significantly lighter trigger pull and is better suited to precision shooting.
-
Double Action (DA) – the hammer is cocked directly by pulling the trigger, without the need for manual cocking. However, due to the heavy trigger pull this mode is better suited to recreational shooting than precision target shooting.
The mechanism is complemented by an adjustable two-stage metal trigger and a manual safety.
Regulated PCP system
The air system uses a 410 cc air cylinder with a maximum filling pressure of 200 bar and a pressure regulator set to 120 bar. The pressure regulator reduces the outlet pressure from the cylinder and maintains it at this level even as the pressure in the cylinder gradually drops. This ensures a stable working pressure for each shot, contributing to more consistent muzzle velocity and shooting results.
Pressure is monitored using two separate pressure gauges - one at the front of the cylinder displays the current air supply pressure, while the second gauge in the fore-end shows the pressure downstream of the regulator.
We do not recommend continuing to shoot if the cylinder pressure drops below the regulator setting. At lower pressure, the regulator can no longer maintain the required working pressure, negatively affecting shot consistency.
The cylinder is filled using a filling probe with a 1/8 BSP thread.
Rifled barrel and moderator compatibility
The Hunting Master 2 uses a shrouded rifled barrel, with the shroud also reinforcing the barrel and helping to reduce shot noise. The muzzle features a 1/2 UNF thread for fitting an external sound moderator.
Compared with the original AR22 model, a barrel band connecting the barrel and air cylinder has been added at the front. The barrel sits within the band with slight clearance, so it retains its free-floating design. Under greater stress, however, the band supports the barrel and reduces the risk of it bending due to careless handling.
Wooden stock and scope mounting
The air rifle is fitted with a new wooden thumbhole stock with a thumbhole, a fixed ambidextrous cheekpiece and a fixed rubber butt pad.
The wood has a textured finish in the grip areas for a more secure hold. A top 22mm mounting rail is provided for fitting a riflescope.
Important magazine handling instructions
The revolver-style action requires the magazine to be correctly oriented and seated. The following rules must be observed when handling it:
-
Ensure the pellets are correctly oriented. Insert the pellets into the individual magazine chambers skirt-first, so that their heads point outwards from the magazine.
-
Never remove the magazine when the hammer is cocked. When the hammer is cocked, the lever of the magazine indexing mechanism engages with the magazine. Attempting to remove the magazine in this state may bend or break the lever.
-
Ensure the magazine is correctly oriented. The design also allows it to be inserted the wrong way round. However, the rear chamber openings are narrower and will not allow a pellet to pass through if the magazine is inserted backwards.
-
Check that the magazine is correctly seated. The magazine is inserted from the right-hand side of the air rifle, but it can accidentally be pushed too far to the left. Firing with an incorrectly seated magazine may damage the action.
