The history of the Lansky Sharpeners brand began in 1979. A young medical student, Arthur Lansky Levine, was constantly dissatisfied with the sharpness of his surgical instruments. He therefore decided to create a universal sharpener that anyone could use for perfectly sharpening knives and tools.
He combined his knowledge of medicine with his experience running the family outdoor store. And that’s how the Lansky brand was born.
As the popularity of steels, sharpeners and Lansky sharpening stones grew, so did their quality. Arthur continued to develop the controlled-angle system and ergonomic handheld sharpeners for field use. Over time, Lansky products became the most respected and highest-quality in their category.
