It is universally accepted that the basic bolts with wooden shafts work best with straw targets. The same goes for bows as well. We would recommend sturdier aluminium bolts for harder targets. Professional-grade carbon bolts usually have threaded tips so you can easily replace them with hunting broadheads. Pistol crossbows use much smaller bolts than their full-size counterparts.
Make sure that you choose the right weight of the bolts recommended for your crossbow. Never buy lighter bolts because they could damage your crossbow. The spine stiffness must correspond with the draw weight of your crossbow. The more power your crossbow has, the stiffer bolts you are going to need. Their length should be determined by the spine and the draw length.
