PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The latest PCP from the British manufacturer BSA impresses with a really good workmanship and favorable price. It is one of the cheapest PCP with a wooden stock on the market. Do not be fooled by the black color, it is really a massive beech stock in Monte Carlo shape, suitable for left and right handed shooters. Stock is finished with a rubber butt. The foregrip and pistol grip are engraved.

The new Buccaneer SE has a completely redesigned air tank and pressure gauge located in the front of the barrel. The filling pressure is 230 BAR and the air cylinder has a capacity of 153 cc. The manufacturer states that with one cartridge can be fired 100 shots at 16J energy. The cold-forged barrel is 470 mm long and has a 1/2 UNF thread, allowing you to mount external silencer.

Reloading has smooth operation and is done using the rear ball. The weapon is supplied with a magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds, the space for the magazine is well designed and it allows to have 13mm dovetail along the whole breech. Fully adjustable trigger.

BSA is a traditional English manufacturer and the workmanship and quality of the Buccaneer SE shows it. The rifle is based on other BSA models, but it has a few features where the influence of BSA's owner, GAMO, has been felt. These are mainly the use of a filling system and pressure indicator in the airhead, the simplification of the loading and percussion mechanism, the SAT trigger mechanism. The weapon is thus simpler in design and therefore less prone to failure. The loading is by means of the bolt action system, i.e. the classic „crank“. The resistance of the percussion spring is quite high and it takes some getting used to, but the tensioning works reliably. The magazine for the pellets is 10 shot and is secured by a magnet. It works on the principle of tensioning, but unlike other brands it tensions in reverse, i.e. you do not tension the first pin, but gradually as you insert the pellets into the magazine. It is convenient and very reliable. The only thing that can be criticised is the unnecessarily strong tensioning of the magazine, however, it does not deform the diabole skirts. Who would like to solve this, the spring tension can be reduced. The trigger is a classic SAT, so it is adjustable. The first stage is quite long, but the trigger itself is readable and can be adjusted. However, it is not a sport trigger, so a limited range of adjustment must be considered so as to avoid dangerous self-triggering. The trigger safety in front of the trigger is manual and only blocks the trigger! As far as the accuracy of the gun is concerned, here it is necessary to test what ammunition will be most suitable for your barrel. BSA barrels in particular are cold forged, which ensures their longevity, however they are not as high end as the stretched barrels from LW. Therefore, they are also more susceptible to diabolical selection. My barrels are best suited to Chinese QYS or the top of the line JSB Exact 4.53mm. With these, you can achieve concentricity to 30 yards below the crown in optimum conditions. While the gun does not have a regulator, if you load and shoot in the pressure range of 190 to 140 bar, you will shoot very consistently and achieve about 50 shots with a consistency of ±5 m/s. Otherwise, of course, you can fill to a working pressure of up to 232 bar and shoot up to about 100 bar. Then with the number of shots you will get up to 100, however the consistency will not be good for accurate shooting on a paper target. As far as performance is concerned, this model is described as 16J, but it depends on the ammunition used and also the working pressure. With the JSB Exact 4.53mm, it averages 13J. This is due to the size of the transferport hole and the percussion spring, but it is not a problem to replace them with a larger(stronger) one. The stock is solid quality and handles well. It is beech, double sided with a nice black polymer (soft touch) finish. The stock is low here though, so I recommend using the lowest possible scope mounts, but that is not a problem here due to the design of the magazine well mount, which does not protrude above the body of the gun and the 11mm scope mount rail is continuous throughout the length of the gun body. Otherwise, at 98 cm long, the gun is well balanced and optimally heavy (approx. 4 kg with optics). The last thing I would like to mention is the barrel ending with a 1/2" UNF thread, which allows mounting a noise moderator. The gun is quite noisy and in the context of good neighborly relations :-) I highly recommend a moderator of at least 30×150 mm diameter (e.g. Umarex K3 Neo).
In conclusion, I would recommend this BSA to anyone who likes tradition, simplicity and reliability. Don't expect any revolutionary results, modern features and equipment. On the other hand, the gun is designed for long service without much maintenance. For those who have no money to spare, it can serve as a decent foundation for entering the world of sport shooting (e.g. FT, HFT), as well as for hunting (where permitted) and fun shooting. The price absolutely corresponds to the quality.
Related models are GAMO Coyote, GX 40, GX250, Chacal and Phox.
