Gerber Defender Tether is a securing reel line that makes sure you always have your gear close at hand, whether it's a knife, match or even a fishing sub-harness. You can attach the reel to your backpack or belt with a loop through which you can thread either a carabiner or a cord. Or you can use the belt clip on the back of the reel.
You can then attach some lighter tools to the carabiner with a Dyneema belay cord. This can then be stretched up to a distance of 91.5 cm. Your equipment won't move when you're walking through the thicket because it is secured by a safety lock. When you unlock it, you can safely handle the tools you have on the cord.
But you shouldn't forget about maintenance either, especially when you soak the reel in water. Just flush it occasionally with clean water, dry it thoroughly and then apply lubrication to the pins and moving parts.
